Devastations Return in Fitting Form

After a brief hiatus filled with rest and recuperation, Devastations have announced their return via their MySpace page. Since they're articulate, intelligent human beings, we thought we'd let them speak for themselves. Their message is posted below in its entirety.

Devastations Announce First US Tour

The sharp-eyed among you may have noticed that Devastations sophomore album will be released on Brassland in less than a week. We're told it's already started popping up on some of the digital music services. We are even more psyched to let you know they'll be coming over here for their first US tour next week.

Their first two American shows will be opening slots for Love is All and The National. On most dates, though, they'll be accompanied by Favourite Sons and The Drones. All three bands are supporting new records. All three make bracing, intense music. It will be awesome. Visit our tour page or Vice Records for details.

Devastations: US Debut in October

Earlier this year, Brassland announced imminent plans to release the debut album by Australia's Devastations, the southern hemisphere's premier purveyors of a new genre we like to call "tropical goth."

Well, someone fucked up the scheduling. (We blame our sole employee, Glenn.) As it turns out, Brassland will first release their sophomore album, Coal. It will come out in October.

Thankfully this album is a doozy, recently shortlisted for the inaugural Australian Music Prize (aka AMP). AMP is sort of like the UK's Mercury Prize, or America's Plug Awards -- only on a different continent. The Devs' final competition for the prize included illustrious compan...

Devastations and The National on Same Bill at Koko, Other News

Two weeks ago our favorite Australian nomads, Devastations, went head-to-head with our favorite Brooklyn homebodies, The National, in a sold-out London show at the famed venue, Koko.

Devastations were coming off their recent move to Europe and a series of dates opening for and backing-up New Zealand pop star Bic Runga. (As in "the lovely and talented.") Bic met the boys in Australia, and was so struck with their talent she contributed vocals to the song "Man of Fortune," which you'll be able to hear when Brassland releases their American debut, Coal.

Welcome to the Club, Devastations

Brassland is pleased to announced the signing of Australia's Devastations. To celebrate, they will be playing a show with The National at London's Koko club on May 31. The US release of Devastations' debut album is currently scheduled for this summer.
